MANGOES

Guimaras Island's golden treasure

Mangoes are the 3rd largest export in the Philippines next to Pineapple and Banana.

Guimaras -- an island located at the Western part of the Philippines was awarded the nickname, “Mango Capital Of The Philippines”. Not only known for the sweetest mangoes in the Philippines, but for having the sweetest mangoes in the world.

The province alone houses over 50,000 Mango trees and are certified free from seed and pulp weevils, the worst enemy of the mango.

The island actively exports its produce to the market of USA, Australia, Canada, and Singapore. These mangoes are being served to the British Royals as well as to the United States government.

Establishing its own Research Center, Guimaras actively works in the prevention of contamination of its local produce. This island is known for its prohibition of outside variety of mangoes upon entering the gates of the province. They make sure to keep the island’s asset free from genetic degradation and disease from any products of lower grade. Furthermore, mangoes that are too small, deformed, or not sweet enough are classified as rejects.
